Storage Unit Size Guide: What Fits in Our Units

Each sealed wooden unit gives you 6.3 m³ of space at R850 per month. Here are typical 1, 2 and 3 unit loads — and the quote calculator works out your exact number of units from your own item list.

How our space guide works

Every PickupStorage unit is the same size: 6.3 m³ of sealed wooden storage inside our managed warehouse. You book whole units — one unit is the minimum — and your monthly price is simply the number of units × R850.

As a rough guide, R850 per 6.3 m³ unit works out to approximately R135 per m³ per month — a space-guide comparison only. Storage is billed per whole unit, not by the individual cubic metre.

One unit typically holds 1 to 1.5 rooms' worth of furniture and boxes. You don't need to guess: add your items to the quote calculator and it adds up the volume, rounds up to whole units, and shows your monthly total instantly. Start with the units you're sure about — you can always add another unit later if you run out of space.

Five ways to fit more into fewer units

Fill every box properly

Half-empty boxes waste space and crush easily. Pack them full with soft items like linen and towels filling the gaps.

Break down what can be broken down

Bed bases, dining tables and wardrobes take far less space when dismantled. Keep screws in a labelled bag taped to the largest piece.

Use drawers and appliances as boxes

Leave light items inside chest drawers, fridges and washing machines — the space is already there, so use it.

Stand sofas and mattresses on end

We pack each unit floor to ceiling. Upright couches and mattresses free up floor space for boxes and small furniture.

Stack to the ceiling, heavy at the bottom

Our team packs units properly: heavy items and solid furniture at the bottom, boxes stacked up top. Every unit is inventory-listed so nothing gets lost.

FAQs

Space guide questions

What fits in one 6.3 m³ storage unit?
One unit typically holds the contents of a studio or bachelor flat: a single or queen bed, a 2-seater couch, a TV and stand, a single-door fridge, a washing machine, a microwave, a coffee table with four dining chairs, and about 10 boxes, plus lamps and pictures.
What fits in two units?
Two units (12.6 m³) typically hold the contents of a one-bedroom flat, including larger furniture: a queen bed, a 3-seater or L-shaped couch, a dining table with six chairs, a fridge/freezer, washer and dishwasher, a bookcase, chest of drawers, two TVs and about 20 boxes.
What fits in three units?
Three units (18.9 m³) typically hold the contents of a two-bedroom home: two bed sets, a lounge suite with two armchairs, an 8-seater dining set, a double-door fridge, washer and tumble dryer, a wardrobe and dressers, a desk, a bicycle, a braai and lawnmower, and about 35 boxes.
How many units do I need for a two-bedroom house?
A typical two-bedroom home needs around three units at R850 each per month. Every home is different, so the quote calculator works out your exact number of whole units from the items you list — you only pay for the units you actually need.
Can I mix furniture and boxes in the same unit?
Yes. Each sealed wooden unit holds a mix of furniture, appliances and boxes. We pack each unit carefully and keep an inventory of what goes in, so items are easy to find and return.
What if my items don't fit in the units I booked?
The quote calculator estimates the number of units from your item list, and we confirm the packing when we collect. If an item turns out to be larger than expected, we re-quote before anything changes — no surprise charges.
Does the space guide change my price?
No. Storage is billed at R850 per 6.3 m³ unit per month, in whole units. Approximately R135 per m³ per month is a space-guide comparison only, not a billing rate. Collection is a once-off R900 and return delivery is quoted separately.
What if I need more than three units?
Three or more units suit two-bedroom homes and larger. For a three-bedroom home or a small office, list your items in the quote calculator and it will work out how many units you need — four, six or however many your load adds up to.
